We are dealing here with a sublime narration of the metamorphosis of one man and resultant birth of a profound philosophy. It can help us reflect on our own course in the realm of spiritualism. But, at times Hesse is too psychic and divorced completely from the materialistic side of the world. Therefore,this work should not be expected to help us develop a balanced outlook.
Apart from that, it is a brilliantly written philosophical masterpiece.
